To that end, a separate organisational unit has been set up within the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP), the Department for the Coordination of Algorithmic Oversight (DCA). The DCA contributes to better control of algorithms and AI in the Netherlands by providing high-level risk analysis, strengthening collaboration between market surveillance authorities, and helping develop new (legal) frameworks.

2024 work agenda for the coordination of algorithmic oversight

Being the coordinating market surveillance authority for algorithms and AI, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) will focus on four key areas in 2024: algorithmic transparency, auditing, governance, and prevention of algorithmic discrimination. We are also preparing for the EU AI Act and looking into the risks of generative AI.

AI & Algorithmic Risks Report Netherlands

Every six months, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) publishes its AI & Algorithmic Risks Report Netherlands (ARR) to provide insight into recent developments, current risks, and the associated challenges. Read the first and second report.

One of the topics that will be covered in the next edition of the ARR, which will be published in the summer of 2024, is the impact of AI and algorithms on the information environment around democratic processes.
