I want to know which data an organisation has of me. How does the organisation have to show this to me?
The organisation is obliged to give you a copy of your personal data. It concerns a copy of your data, not of the whole documents that contain the data. You therefore usually receive an overview of your personal data.
This is what you can expect when you ask an organisation for access. Tip: use the model letter (in Dutch) of the AP for your request.
Does an organisation not give all the data that you ask for? Or does the organisation refuse your request? Then the organisation will have to explain why. For example, because it would harm the privacy of someone else.
Submitting a complaint
If you disagree with the decision, discuss this with the organisation first. If this does not solve the problem, you may want to submit a complaint to the AP.
Note: in that case, the AP will ask you to demonstrate that you have applied to the organisation with your complaint first. You must also have the suspicion that the organisation breaks the rules, and indicate why think that.
