Regulations for drones with cameras

If you use a drone with a camera, you must comply with international and national regulations. Since 1 January 2024, new rules apply to flying drones within the EU, and therefore also within the Netherlands.

Cx label

Since 1 January 2024, drones must carry a Cx label. The Cx label determines which category your drone falls into and which rules apply. For more information about the categories and rules, see: Rules for flying drones at Rijksoverheid.nl (in Dutch).

Remote ID

It is also mandatory for most drones to use Remote ID. With Remote ID, it is possible to see who is flying a drone from which location. This allows enforcers to take better action against people who, for example, fly their drones in an area where this is not permitted. Also see: Remote identification (Remote ID) at Rijksoverheid.nl (in Dutch).

Registration

Don’t forget that you must register with the Netherlands Vehicle Authority (Rijksdienst Wegverkeer, RDW) as an operator. This has been mandatory since 2020 for both recreational and professional use of drones throughout the European Union (EU). Also see: Drone at RDW.nl.
